CXC provides examinations and certification at the secondary and post-secondary levels. The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination is offered for students at the end of the secondary education cycle. The Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) is offered for post-secondary candidates entering the world of work and for those candidates who wish to continue their further education at the tertiary level
How CXC assesses candidates
Performance of students is assessed in a terminal examination stet a School Based Assessment (SBA). The internal assessment (SBA) enables the teacher to provide opportunity for students to acquire skills and attitudes through activities done during the course of study. The teacher assessment of the students contributes to the final grade awarded.
Recognition of CXC Examinations and Certification
CXC examinations and certification are accepted regionally and internationally.
Regional Universities and international tertiary institutions accept students with CSEC and CAPE certification. Some institutions in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States of America also grant credits or advanced standing (depending on the courses) to students who present CAPE certificates or the Associate Degree based on clusters of CAPE subjects.
